The Morning Life in Vietnam Part II

Andrew | June 3rd, 2008

Our Faculty Leader Chatman Neely’s take on Mornings in Vietnam:

Each morning I get up and go a for a walk and can feel a pulsating energy, much like a dance, in all directions.

People are up early and out exercising…young and old. The spirit in the air is alive and energized!

Most people look at me and then after I nod my head or say hello theylight up with a big smile and say “hello.” Their spontaneous and unbridled smiles remind me of how free and “in the moment” a child is when they stumble onto something new and exciting.

So, each day in Vietnam I give my self a gift and take an early morning walk and smile with theVietnamese with the same ease I see in their smiles.

As an American, and in particular as a social worker and a teacher I’m humbled by how freely the Vietnamese make contact with visitors.

It’s rather clear to me that we(WVU group)can learn a great deal from our Vietnamese hosts!
