Social Workers and World Peace

Andrew | May 31st, 2008

And observation on the importance of Social Work from Jim Keresztury:

Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding. —Albert Einstein (1979-1955)

As we cultivate both professional relationships and friendships with our new colleagues from Vietnam and Cambodia it reminds me of our professional responsibility as social worker to assume a leadership role in world peace.

Our skills and abilities fit so perfectly within the framework of worldwide collaboration and understanding.

I recognize that we get consumed with our very heavy workloads and busy personal lives and everyone cannot commit the time and resources to travel internationally.

But my hope is that we all can find opportunities to support efforts to build understanding and peace throughout the world.

If you want peace, work for justice.

—Pope Paul VI (1897-1978)
